As one of the leading full-size pickup trucks, the 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 has a refined interior, outstanding tow rating, and comfortable seats. The truck has several drivetrain and configurations available, so you can find the perfect trim for towing, off-roading, or daily commuting.
Trim Levels
There are six trims available with the 2020 Ram 1500: Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited. The truck also has two cab styles, including the Quad Cab and Crew Cab. The Quad Cab is an extended cab with smaller rear doors, while the Crew Cab has full-sized rear doors and an extra 10 inches of legroom. The Laramie Longhorn and Limited trims only have the Crew Cab option.
Engine
The 2020 Ram 1500 comes standard with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. Two other V-8 engines are available, and both have 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The only difference is that one of them has a fuel-saving eTorque mild-hybrid system.
The new engine option for 2020 is a 3-liter diesel engine that cranks out 260 horsepower and a massive 480 pound-feet of torque. Every engine comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All models come standard with rear-wheel drive, but four-wheel drive is optional.
Performance
With the standard six-cylinder engine, the Ram achieves 20 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. These numbers are some of the best in its class for a base engine. If you have the regular V-8 engine, expect to get 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, while the V-8 engine with eTorque gets 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. For towing capacity, the vehicle can tow anywhere from 6,250 to 12,750 pounds depending upon its configuration. It can carry a payload of up to 2,320 pounds.
Interior
The base Tradesman comes standard with cloth or vinyl upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, several USB ports, and the Uconnect infotainment system with a 5-inch touch-screen display. The Big Horn trim includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel and upgraded cloth upholstery, while the Laramie adds heated, ventilated, and 12-way power-adjustable front seats as well as dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker audio system, and an upgraded infotainment system with an 8.4-inch touch-screen display paired with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
With the Rebel trim, you gain satellite radio and a 115-volt power outlet, and the Laramie Longhorn includes premium leather upholstery, heated rear seats, HD radio, and navigation. The top-of-the-line Limited trim features a 12-inch touch-screen display.
Safety Features
The 2020 Ram 1500 comes standard with a rearview camera, but there are numerous safety features available. Among the features include forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.
Because of its stellar safety features, the Ram 1500 with the Crew Cab earned a perfect five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the Crew Cab a Top Safety Pick+, which is its highest honor.
